On the night of October 20, at the busy intersection of 17M and Route 208 in Monroe, Orange County Chavivim received a report from a concerned passerby: chickens were lying in poor condition on the roadway and the surrounding area, with others loose and running free. The birds had fallen from a transport vehicle.

Chavivim promptly dispatched several members with a pickup truck — KJ-503 — to take control of an unusual, fast-moving scene spread across a live intersection.

Securing the Birds

Members worked methodically: securing the distressed birds in crates, preparing and packing them to be returned to their proper location, removing the animals that had not survived, and capturing the ones still wandering across the road and the adjacent areas.

Coordinating With Monroe PD

In coordination with the Monroe Police Department, an investigation was conducted to determine the source of the release. Chavivim members remained on scene — keeping the roadway clear and traffic moving — until the responsible company arrived to retrieve the chickens that had inadvertently fallen from their transport vehicle.

Whatever the Road Brings

From a flat tire to a roadway full of loose chickens, the job is whatever the community — and the road — needs. Members held the scene until it was fully cleared, the deceased animals were removed, and the surviving birds were back in the right hands.
