Multiple Trees Down Across Route 208 at Peddler Hill
Featured vehicle: KJ-503
At 12:51 AM, the call came in: multiple trees down blocking traffic on Route 208 at Peddler Hill Rd. Orange County Chavivim was on scene quickly, joined by South Blooming Grove FD on the chainsaws and South Blooming Grove PD running traffic until the road was cleared.
Onto the Curve
Our truck rolled in within minutes — light bars up, hazards out, members already pulling vests as the doors opened. A live road with trees across both lanes is a worst-case nighttime call: drivers come around the bend at 50 mph and find a wall of branches in their headlights.
South Blooming Grove PD Secures the Area
South Blooming Grove PD arrived shortly after and took control of traffic — closing the corridor, holding cars back from both directions, and giving the saw crew the space to work without anyone wandering into the bend.
South Blooming Grove FD on the Saws
SBGFD rolled in with the heavy gear and went to work on the trunks. Chainsaw on the main, branches stacked off to the side of the guardrail, members hauling debris to the shoulder while we ran scene safety and lighting.
Coordinated Response
The piece that always matters most on a multi-agency call: people talking to each other. Chavivim, FD chief, and PD officers regrouped on the road as the cuts progressed — checking the next move, coordinating the lane reopen, looking out for each other in the dark.
Road Cleared, Traffic Restored
Once the cuts were done, the trees and debris were dragged off the lane to the side of the guardrail. PD reopened the corridor, our crew packed up the cones and lights, and Route 208 was back in service.
Why We Show Up
1 AM, wet road, downed trees, downed lines, no streetlights — exactly the kind of call where a few extra minutes of warning saves someone's car or worse. Big thank-you to South Blooming Grove FD and South Blooming Grove PD for the partnership tonight. We'll see you on the next.
